Vivian Low, MPH, BSN, RN-BC, is Chair of the Nursing Research Council at El Camino Hospital, a not-for-profit organization hospital in Silicon Valley with campuses in Mountain View and Los Gatos, CA. She concurrently manages the Cardiovascular Pulmonary Wellness Center of the Heart and Vascular Institute at El Camino Hospital, specializing in cardiac risk factor reduction and wellness. Under her leadership, both cardiac and pulmonary programs received national certification through the American Association of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

The American Nursing Credentialing Center awarded El Camino Hospital the designation of Magnet Nursing Excellence in 2005, making it the first San Francisco Bay Area hospital to receive such distinction. El Camino Hospital is one of the most technologically advanced in the world and supports the work of its nurse scientists. Ms. Low serves on the Magnet Committee with specific focus in the areas of Nursing, New Knowledge, Innovation, Improvements, and Nursing Empirical Outcomes. She is a Site Coordinator for the Evidence-Based Practice Fellows Education Program through the University of California, San Francisco/Stanford Center for Nursing Research and Innovation. Her expertise is in education and support of the frontline bedside nurse through innovative nursing research that aims to improve patient care, empower nurses with the skills and knowledge to understand and engage in nursing research, and ensure evidence-based practice implementation throughout the organization.

Ms. Low was an El Camino Hospital Leadership in Action Award Nominee in 2005 and 2007. Her work in Cardiac Rehabilitation was recognized when she received the California State Society of Cardiac Rehabilitation Award of Excellence and the DeAnza Community College Program Founding Coordinator Recognition of Excellence Award. She currently co-chairs the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association. Ms. Low earned her nursing degree from the University of San Francisco and her master’s degree in public health from San Jose State University with a focus on Community Health Education.
